‘The condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.’
Every day we scroll through hundreds if not thousands of different lives. We can experience a carousel of written and visual representations of natural or manufactured lives wherever we look.
Online or offline.
For people working in creative industries, I consider this to be more a blessing than a curse, although I am sure that some consider the latter to be true. To each his own, I always say. Each individual has his outtake on life.
Inspiration is present in every pixel if you know where to look. And how to look at it.
I know, from experience, that the internet is capable of transporting you into the minds of millions. Billions of ideas and countless different visions are at your fingertips. Ready to animate your creativity and cast out your writer’s block.
So, if you were to ask me where I get my inspiration from, I would answer simply: Life.
But if you were to ask me how to explain Life in the most uncomplicated way, then I would play for you Izzy Burton’s award-winning animation Via, inspired by Rachel Cladingbowl’s poem.
The warm and colorful animation is an excellent example of vibrant visual storytelling inspired by a beautiful poem she found online in her search for inspiration.
Izzy Burton is currently a Lead Artist at Netflix Animation.
