Two experts. One voice.
A brand, unmistakably defined.

How the 3S system gave two infrastructure-savvy founders the clarity to define their brand.

Two founders,
starting a brand
from the ground up.

Lockpick Networks was founded by two people whose expertise in network engineering, system administration, cybersecurity, Managed IT, compliance, and DevOps was hard-won and deep. But brand and communications? That was uncharted territory. They were starting from zero: no positioning, no message, almost invisible.

Each founder saw Lockpick through a different lens. Not competing ones. Complementary. One founder saw it through visionary engineering and technical depth; the other through disciplined, client-first reliability. Both true. Both essential. What was missing was the shared language to unite these strengths into a brand message anyone could grasp. That was the gap I came to bridge.

The founders knew their work stood apart, but struggled to articulate why. After a deep-dive debrief, I used the 3S system to unearth the truth at the heart of their business, blend their perspectives into a single, powerful voice, and deliver a brand and comms system they could own themselves.

Context

Lockpick Networks goes head-to-head with IT giants: rigid, top-heavy firms that treat smaller clients as afterthoughts. Lockpick’s edge? Agility, tailored security-first services, and direct access to the experts who do the work.

But that edge existed only in the founders’ minds and in the excellence of their builds — nowhere a prospect could see it. Two experts, each with a unique approach, but no way to show the market what set them apart. The world saw just another IT vendor, because Lockpick hadn’t yet shown them otherwise.

Lockpick Networks needed its worldview discovered, translated, and captured in words — before a single line of copy could be written.

THE CHALLENGE

The stated brief was to create a brand: positioning, voice, a plan for showing up online from close to a standing start.

The real work ran deeper. Two expert viewpoints, both valid, but neither fully voiced — and no brand language to unite them. The task was not to pick sides or invent something new, but to dig beneath the surface, find the shared truth both founders circled, and give it words. Less mediator, more translator.

THE INSIGHT

They didn't need a brand invented. They needed theirs translated.

The substance was already present — in their builds, in what they refused to compromise, in two founders passionate about different sides of the same coin.
What was missing was the sentence that could hold both halves together.
This collaboration was more about synthesis, not invention: holding both founders’ worlds together, uncovering the truth already within them, and building everything from that foundation.

How the 3S System Helped

01

Substance

Find the insight

It began with a collaborative debrief process designed to dig deeper than surface answers, uncover each founder’s perspective, distil core insights, and map the brand’s underlying values. Not a questionnaire, but a way of listening for what had never been spoken.  What it surfaced was one truth, distilled from their perspectives:

Founder 1
Visionary engineering. Technical depth.
+
Founder 2
Disciplined, client-first reliability.
The one truth beneath it all
Lockpick Networks is built on a simple truth: the best infrastructure combines technical precision with human partnership. The single insight that everything else would be built on.
02

Strategy

Build the blueprint

Once the truth was found, the next step was definition: clearly deciding what Lockpick is and what it is not. The founders’ complementary perspectives became purposeful tensions the brand would hold, not resolve. From this came the positioning, messaging hierarchy, and a clear line on what the brand would never say.

The result: no guesswork, just a brand with sharp edges before a single word was written.

03
Story
Shape and write

Only then did words take shape. The strategy crystallised into a living USP, a distinct voice, and a messaging system — the brand finally sounding like itself: precise when it mattered, warm when it counted, never lost in jargon. Every line was rooted in the insight, so the writing carried the thinking, not just decorated it.

The system
Built to run without me

The final piece was a comms strategy the founders could run solo or with a lean team: a channel plan with clear roles, a method to turn one asset into a week’s content, and a 90-day roadmap from visibility to leads — paced for a small team. Lockpick didn’t just get a voice; it gained the tools to keep using it.

The Result

A founder-led company, starting from zero,
with a cohesive strategy from day one.

At that stage, there were no metrics to shift — the brand hadn’t officially launched. The result was rarer: two expert viewpoints fused into one coherent brand, with a system to sustain it.

They didn’t follow every suggestion or implement every step — no one does, and the strategy was meant to be adapted, not followed blindly. What mattered was that the core insight held true. Over a year later, the brand still leads with the line born from this work: Engineered to Last. Delivered with Care.

The company has grown into serious enterprise territory, still standing on the foundation we built together.

WHAT THEY WALKED AWAY WITH

Using the 3S system, I helped clarify their brand and business goals and create the brand & communication strategy.

A brand Strategy Blueprint

Their two perspectives translated into one insight, defined into clear positioning — what the brand is and what it purposefully is not.

A voice

A working USP and messaging system that helped a company with no voice finally sound like itself.

A comms system

A channel structure and 90-day plan designed to help the brand communicate with a small team.

Bring the problem.
We'll define the brief.
